Fortune Cards are not Pokemon Cards

	http://wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/drdd/20110427

So our neighbors 10yo & 9yo are obsessed with Pokemon cards and some of the other stuff (crap) that goes with it. I cannot go over to their home with Shane to play without the older kids running up to me to say, “Stephanie, do you wanna see how many Pokemon cards I have?!!!!” Then they proceed to tell me all about the different characters. But they know nothing about the game, how it's played or that it is in fact an RPG. Pokemon could be cool if played with emphasis on some tactic and shall I say, hmmmmm, I don't know skill, knowledge? Something! It annoys me to no end! I've actually been out with these particular neighbors when the oldest kid was supposed to be having a Pokemon-free day. He was required to make no mention of anything Pokemon related while we were at the zoo. He was foiled when we bumped into another kid his aged at the playgroun in the zoo who brought a DS and was playing...Yes, a Pokemon game!

NewbieDM ditches DDI

So short of twitter stalking Newbie DM (is there a catchy word for that yet? stwalking?) I have been keeping a little closer track of his blogging lately. Since I realized he's this genius kids rpg author.

Anyway, we have always gone back and forth about the DDI subcriptions. Should we all get them? Should we go in for a group one? Is the content worth what WOTC is asking etc. etc. etc.?

Newbie DM's subscription ran out recently so he decided to let it go at least for the time being. He has some interesting ideas about the whole thing in his article http://newbiedm.com/2011/04/11/why-i-left-ddi/

I really think you all will dig your teeth into it at the next podcast. And we need to find some week night that works to have a little mini podcast with him so we can talk about RPG kids and some of his other awesome projects.

D&D Dads Crazy Fitness Dad Incites RPG community

There is this great new site about D&D&Dads from Jeff Greiner, The Tome Show and buddy Mark (he's a D&D celeb but I don't know him...you old schoolers will have to fill me in)

Anway, they have offered space on their site for any D&D Dad to talk about what it's like to be a dad, play D&D and be an all round geek.

They recently gave a new guy an account and this is what he posted.

	dndndads.com/2011/03/26/rpg-parents-and-the-elephant-in-the-room/

	dndndads.com/2011/03/28/rpg-parents-and-the-elephant-in-the-room-part-ii/

There was a bit of an uproar and Arcane Springboard posted a response here

	www.myrpgame.com/2011/03/27/a-response-to-rpg-parents-and-the-elephant-in-the-room/

RPG kids

Playing D&D with your kids is getting easier & easier! Hooray! Jeff & Sarah Moore just played with their 3&5 yr old coolest kiddos last week using RPGkids from Newbie DM, Enrique Bertran newbiedm.com. I was hanging out with Sarah Moore gamerchickshow.com and the kids this week during spring break and she showed me campaign.

It's pretty awesome. Way better than Heroes of Hesiod (Sorry WOTC!) It's a full adventure with hand drawn color tokens. I really like Enrique's artwork it's comic booky snd D&D all rolled together. Very cool. Tokens are what caught my eye as they were sitting on Sarah's dining room table still. They look a lot like Jared Von Hinman's work headinjurytheater.com, a supercool artist we met at Gencon with Shelly Mazzanoble. last year (there I have offically dropped all my geek connections in one article – classy)

Should I Submit a 2nd Generation Gamer "Event" for Gencon

So I was driving Shane to preschool last Friday. Here is how our conversation went:

"Mama, when are we going to Gencon?"

"Well buddy, It's not until the end of the summer. So it's gotta get a lot warmer before we can go to Gencon. Are you excited to go?"

"Yes."

"Do you want to wear a costume again and maybe be in the parade with Wyatt & Amelia and Mama?"

"No, I don't want to be in the parade. I never-ever want to be in a parade. I only want to wear my costume."

"Who do you want to be this year, Thor, or Obi Wan?"

"Hmmmmmm." [a very long pause] "Obi Wan."

"What if there were other kids. Like if there were a kids costume parade, would you be in a parade then?"

"Oh, with other kids in costumes? That would be very nice. I would like to do that mama! Mama, does Obi Wan have a nick name?"

End scene.

D&D goes Prime Time

The new legal dramedy, Fairly Legal, has geek spin on it enough to make even the most SciFi/Fantasy obsessed of us cock our heads and say, “Did she really say D&D?” Yes! I will keep watching this show. . .or in Chad's case begin watching it. Here's the basic idea: Kate was a lawyer who is surrounded by other lawyers. She stops practicing to be a mediator in her father's firm with her dad & stepmother (whose appears to be a year or to older than her). Her dad has just died at the beginning of the show and she is recently separated from her husband who is an ADA. But the character I like best and who is featured basically as Kate's sidekick is her assistant, Leo. Leo is an excellent representation of your every day professional gaming geek! Aside from being the Wizard of all things for Kate's professional life (even though the ringer that identifies his calls is the cowardly lion), he is a D&D gamer, a Buffy watcher, clearly a ScFi/Fantasy buff and by episode three clearly shows a preference to Apple products (which Chad & I won't hold against the writers...we like us some Macbooks too, but put Linux on it!).

Confessions of a Full-Time Geek's WIfe

Okay! I confess ... since October I have not only been providing food & spirits for the Lord's of Tyr (Chad's Dungeons & Dragons -DnD- group), but I have been playing with them as well. I confess once more . . . I like to play! I only wish there was a nother geek girl that I could relate to that was part of the group. Don' tell my best friend. She might just disown me! (But I hope not for real)

Anyway, amidst my initiation into DnD I have also been a member of the Podcast that occurs twice a month on off game nights. Last time I provided a topic about some research that is being gathered by some RGP chicas that are going to write an RPG book for women. The only one to date is Confessions of a Part-time Sorcerouss

I am in the middle of reading it (and re-reading Harry Potter VI again). And it's quite good. Anyway, in case their are other RPGers of the female variety whom catch our family website or the Lord's of Tyr website I wanted to share geeksdreamgirl with you! She's curently got a poll out there for what class type you think President Obama is. Vote now! Just don't tell my best friend, Michelle!

Vala of the Forest (for Chad's game)

Forest Warden: I'm just part of the Whorlwood. But I'm its leaves, its branches, its trunk, its roots. I regard myself as part of the natural world and as a Primal Guardian I am part of the natural world which nurtures and protects the rest. I strive against dangers both mundane, like the pesky woodcutter, as well as magical. I ventured away from my precious woodland on a quest for truth. As much as a right of passage as a journey toward knowing my fullest self.

This is only the second time I have been so far from my homeland, Birchwood, as I had chance to visit the Feywild with my mentor. Birchwood is a and elven village which borders Summer Kingdom. It is small and secluded though does have a friendly export relationship with Summer Kingdom and its courts. However, I still l feel a constant itch within me, one that I cannot seem to satisfy; though it slackens as I wander nearer the trees as I am able.

Enathrea

I am honored to introduce myself and please to accept the graces of your friendship and bond Moonstars. I am Enathrea, Eladrin, Paladin-Warlock(mulit-class). For reasons I cannot explain, Bahamut only knows, I teleported into a strange stone room with you somewhat confunded adventures. After some introductions I offer my friendship and bond as Eladrin. You have my prayers as a Paladin and honor that I will do all within my means to provide care, healing, and strength as we seek to discover what has tipped the balance to cause our paths to cross. It is my hearts strongest desire to return home to continue the battle of which I left to protect my homeland. Until then I will offer my protection and give you all that I have to be constnantly vigiliant aginst evil opposing it on all fronts.
